Gas Holder 8 Case Study
Off the back of previous successful projects Full Blast was invited to team up with a major player in the historical renovation sector to carry out the blasting and painting of Gas Holder 8 Kings Cross London.

Gasholder No.8 was built in the 1850s for the storage of town gas. The gasholder formed part of the largest gas works in London and remained in use until the late 20th Century. The gasholder is a Grade II listed structure. The distinctive 25 meter high circular guide frame has an internal diameter of over 35 meters. The frame was painstakingly dismantled and transported off site for the work to be carried out in a controlled environment.

Full Blast was sub contracted in to be part of the refurbishment team. The works included the offsite application of the coating system and on site remedial works at Kings Cross

Due to the location of gas holder 8 the onsite works presented an environmental challenge due to the close proximity of the canal and public walkways. Also encountered were time scale issues due to the fast track nature of the project. Detailed risk assessments were produced to oversee the environmental constraints and working closely with the main contracting team helped complete the works on time and on budget.
